When my parents were traveling home from visiting my sister in Turkey earlier this month (they wanted to meet their 3rd grandson), they met a man in the Munich airport who does business in Ukraine. This man is very passionate about Ukraine. They told him that their daughter was trying to adopt from Ukraine, and he gave them his business card. My parents and brother were up for my birthday yesterday (sooo sweet of them!) and gave me this card. So I emailed the guy last night. He wants Americans to buy goods made in a free country (Ukraine) rather than China. Anyhow in one part of his email to me he gave me advice about trying to conceive which I was not expecting given the context of our conversation was adoption from Ukraine. Now sometimes this "advice" really can annoy me. There are a few comments I hope I never hear again like "you should be glad you don't have kids yet, once you have kids..." or "just adopt and then you'll get pregnant." I must say I still don't handle those too well (inside - the person has no idea what I am feeling as I can hide my feelings).
Well this guy's advice just cracked me up. I am not sure if it is because it's just funny advice or if it's just that after five years of trying I am able to laugh rather than cry more easily. Anyhow in case it is funny to any of you I will paste his advice below. I have to say it's original!!!
"My daughter was not able to conceive. They tried everything. He was OK, she was OK, just no conception. No one could understand why. Well, like I said, I am a country boy. I bought her a PUPPY. This little Doberman female was as wild as you can imagine. Two months of that Tasmanian devil in their home drove them nuts. Finally, my daughter called me and pleaded for me to take the puppy back. I told her that the pup had been there long enough. Two weeks later, Pam called me and said, GUESS WHAT? Well, today, her baby is three years old. I am not sure of your issues but if you are OK, then try a puppy."

HA!
I can relate to your comment about getting lots of advice as you try to grow your family. I guess you just have to assume the best about people and that they generally mean well with their ideas.
So what kind of puppy are you getting??? (smile)
It is hard to read a persons intent in an e-mail, especially if you don't know them. I'm guessing he was trying to lighten a stressful time for you. Look at it as comic relief.Because of the ttc site and a best friend who has adopted 2x I am careful about what I do or don't say. Most people though just don't have a clue that thier comment is hurtful or rude.
I always tell my friend she should write a book about it or at least a pamphlet for you ladies to hand out! She has been published before.
Since you jog you should could a puppy that will run with you! LOL
I completely agree that people mean well when they make these comments. Most of the time I just smile or don't say anything to the "have you tried xyz" type comments. The only one I sometimes respond to is the "just adopt and you'll get pg" comment. If it's someone I know fairly well then I do take the opportunity to politely educate them that this is a myth, but I rarely respond to any other comments.
I am positive this guy meant well. His comment didn't annoy me; it honestly just made me laugh. How on earth could having a puppy help us get pregnant??? It's totally illogical to me. Paul does want to get a dog some day, but if we get one it won't be because we think it will help us get pg, LOL!
