1. It was wonderful to celebrate Grandma's birthday with her on Saturday and to be able to spend time with Paul's parents, brother, and sister-in-law for several hours for the first time in 2020.
2. The weather lately has been gorgeous - unseasonably warm for November!
3. As yesterday was Veteran's Day, I'm thankful for the men and women who have served in the military in our country in the past and are serving at this time. Freedom isn't free!
4. Some of the recent new recipes have been well received: Pop Pop, Uncle Al, and I enjoyed the apple strudel, the kids enjoyed the cheese soufflé last night, the boys and I have been enjoying the yiaourtopita (lemon pound cake made with Greek yogurt), and the kids and I REALLY liked the paninis we had for lunch on Monday.
5. We enjoyed hiking at Hawk Mountain on Tuesday. In addition to seeing a bald eagle and turkey vultures soaring above us, Ian spotted a walking stick on the ground. The highlight for me was being able to spend about seven hours with my friend whom I don't get to see very often. I think the kids' favorite part of the day was having dinner at Friendly's, which didn't cost us any money thanks to gift cards we had received previously.
6. Margie's surgery went well on Monday, and the surgeon feels very optimistic that the cancer hasn't spread to her lymph nodes. We're praying the pathology report will confirm that this week.
7. Paul gave me permission to hire someone to do some odd jobs around the house. I had asked for permission once or twice a year over the past three years, and the only thing he had said yes to in the past was hiring someone to replace our downstairs toilet. I am SO, SO happy that now I have permission to hire a handyman to replace a small section of drywall behind our refrigerator, replace the downstairs toilet, and some other odd jobs. The one that will please me the most (by far) when it is complete is our shower! Twice this week I got up and wanted to get a shower and had to wait 20-30 minutes for Ian to get out of that bathroom so I could get a shower, which caused problems because Nadia likes to start doing math at 7:00am.. I cannot wait to have our master bathroom shower working again. Paul started that project 4.5 years ago so I've had to wait far longer than I ever thought I would. Hopefully the projects will be completed before the end of 2020! I am very, very thankful that I have permission to hire a handyman!!!
