1. At 2 years old Nadia and Oliver's attention spans for reading were much longer than Ian's. Ian was only interested in books that have only a few words per page (like Spot books for example). Ian attempted to recite two books from memory -
Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you Hear (Carle) and
Blue Hat, Green Hat (Boynton).
2. Nadia and Ian's vocabularies at age two were very similar in size, and Oliver's is the smallest. Nadia's pronunciation was MUCH better than her brothers. Ian and Oliver certainly could pronounce many words correctly, but there were also many words they said which were understandable but not every sound within the word was pronounced yet. Nadia and Ian were at about the same stage in terms of the length of their sentences at this age (3-5 words). One of Ian's most common sentences was "I'll get it." Oliver very recently got out of the "mostly only
using one word at a time" stage. He has said a few 4 word sentences, but mostly he's at the 2-3 word stage right now.
3. All three children loved VeggieTales. Nadia preferred the silly songs. Ian's favorites were Daniel (VeggieTales) and Frosty the Snowman. Oliver's favorite show to watch is Thomas the Train.
4. At two years old, they all enjoyed riding rides at Knoebels. Nadia and Oliver were definitely braver with riding rides than Ian. Nadia was the most expressive during the rides (biggest smiles).
5. All three children enjoyed singing at this age. Nadia's pronunciation was better than Ian's, and Ian definitely sang more throughout the day than Nadia or Oliver. Some of Ian's favorite songs were "Frosty the Snowman," "Go Tell it on the Mountain," "The Wheels on the Bus,"
"Oh Christmas Tree," "Jingle Bells," "BIBLE," and "Joshua fought the battle of Jericho." Of the three kids, Oliver sang the most with me while rocking him before putting him down for his nap and at night. Many times EVERY day he asks us to sing "Row, row, row your boat." I am very tired of that song! :)
6. Nadia and Oliver were definitely more extroverted and friendly at this age, but Ian had just started to occasionally wave or say "hi" or "bye" to strangers at a store or restaurant. Nadia LOVED going to church. Before she turned two she had been promoted to the preschool Sunday School class and children's church. Ian and Oliver were still in the nursery for both Sunday School and church when they turned two. Ian usually cried when I dropped him off. Oliver went through a phase where he cried, but he generally doesn't cry, especially when Tom Morgan is helping out in the nursery.

7. Nadia was drinking cold cow's milk from a hard sippy cup. Ian was drinking warm rice drink from a soft spout sippy cup, and Oliver is drinking cold cow's milk, water, or apple juice from an open cup. Nadia and Oliver were eating table food. The only table foods Ian could eat were pudding, yogurt, and applesauce. Oliver drinks more water and eats a wider variety of foods than his siblings ever have. In particular he eats WAY more cheese.
8. At two they all loved walking around in Mommy's or Daddy's shoes, being tickled, being cuddled, playing outside, Play-Doh, rough house, and baths. Nadia loved playing with her kitchen. Ian and Oliver weren't really into that, but they loved playing with vehicles of all sorts. Both boys also LOVED to be chased. Nadia was better at catching a ball that was thrown to her than Ian or Oliver. Oliver really enjoys playing with Mr. Potato head and also building with Duplos or Mega Bloks. His building skills surpass where his siblings were at this age.
9. Nadia was potty trained (night and day) by this point. I thought Oliver would be day time potty trained by the time he turned two, but potty training fell apart on his fifth day of wearing underwear. I didn't start (day time) potty training Ian until shortly after he turned two years old.
10. At 2 years Nadia weighed 29lbs, and Ian and Oliver both weighed 27lbs. All three were a little more than 33 inches tall
when they turned two years old.
11. Nadia and Oliver both had 16 teeth, whereas Ian only had 9 teeth when he turned two (didn't have any canines and only had 1 molar at that point). They all still had blue eyes and blonde hair although Ian and Oliver's hair was lighter blonde than Nadia's. Ian's hair was thicker than Nadia or Oliver's.
12. All of them were sleeping through the night at two years old. The latest Nadia ever slept in by age 2 was 8:45, the latest Ian ever slept in was 7:45, and the latest Oliver ever slept was 8:00. At two years old, Ian was more consistent about sleeping in until 7:00. Nadia and Oliver typically got up earlier than that (sometimes even before 6am). Nadia was a MUCH better napper as she was taking a 2-3 hour nap compared to Ian's 10-30 minute long nap and Oliver's 1-2 hour nap.
13. Ian and Oliver's attention spans for playing independently were MUCH longer than Nadia's. She always wanted
someone to play with her.
14. Ian spent a lot more time crying each day than Nadia or Oliver. Ian cared FAR more about what he was wearing than Nadia or Oliver did at this age.
15. Ian was far more destructive than Nadia ever has been. He loved to pull tons of books off the bookshelf, dump bins of toys out, etc. He made messes FAR faster than I could clean them up! I think Oliver would have been like Ian in this regard, but I nipped it in the bud. Oliver is required to help clean up any mess he makes.
16. Ian loved animals more than Nadia or Oliver. This was really evident whenever we visited a zoo.
17. Ian and Oliver were far more "Momma's boys" than Nadia was at this age.
18. Ian and Oliver were far more interested in all the contents of my purse (who knew a calendar could be so exciting to a 1 year old?) than Nadia, and Ian loved talking on
the phone more than his siblings. Several times a day Ian handed me my cell phone and said "call Grandma," even as early as 7:15.
19. Nadia had one favorite stuffed animal. First it was "doggie" that Sarah gave her, and then it was Larry the Cucumber. Ian loved stuffed animals, but which ones were his favorite changed on a weekly if not daily basis. These included a rhino, kitty, dog, "Chocolate man," Bob, rabbit, bear, and monkey. Up until very recently, Oliver was not attached to any stuffed animals, but he now loves to sleep with Mickey Mouse tucked under his arm (that Paul's parents got him at Disney).
20. None of our children made any attempt to climb out of the crib during the first 2 years of life.
21. Ian and Oliver made far more of a mess when sitting in their booster seat than Nadia did at this age. The boys love to throw things. We're working on overcoming that bad habit with
Oliver. Oliver also throws things when he's mad. He definitely has the worst temper of the three kids.
23. Ian and Oliver sat in a stroller happily far longer than Nadia would when she was this age.
24. Oliver shows the most interest in helping clean. He brings the dustpan over to my pile when I'm sweeping the kitchen floor. Whenever we are at a playground, he removes pieces of mulch from the equipment.
25. By the time they turned two years old Ian had been under general anesthesia four times, Oliver had been under it once, and Nadia at six years old has never experienced that yet. Oliver's pregnancy and first few weeks of life involved far more medical professionals than the other two, but from NICU discharge to age two, Ian definitely had far more doctor appointments than the other two. Ian also had weekly occupational therapy, and the other two haven't had any therapy services.
I am so, so, so thankful for all three of these precious kids. They have brought so much joy to our lives. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
