Juggling Crafts

Michael's craft stores offer many programs for kids. On Saturday mornings a thirty minute craft session costs $2.00. We haven't tried one of those yet. In the summer they offer a Passport to Imagination program on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for seven weeks (21 total sessions) that costs $2 for a session that lasts up to two hours long. This year the theme of the program focused on seven different famous museums such as the Field Museum in Chicago and the Georgia Aquarium.

I thought of taking the kids on Wednesday for the Picasso themed projects, but Paul wanted to take them to see Turbo. I took them yesterday morning for the very last session. Next year I will probably take them to a few different sessions after I see what exactly they'll be making each day. They do offer a wide variety of classes for kids and adults - cake decorating, knitting, painting, etc. A certified art teacher teaches a kids's painting class twice a month ($15 a class). I think I'm going to have Nadia try that once and see what we think of it. Since art was on my mind, I pulled out the art dvds I purchased in May and ordered about $100 worth of art supplies for the kids to create 5 projects (soft pastel, colored pencils, acrylic paints, etc.).

After Oliver woke up from his very short nap, we headed to the library to see the Flow Circus juggling program. Ian and Nadia were laughing their heads off at various points in the program. The performer did an excellent job of teaching science (potential energy, gravity, etc.) during the entertaining and humorous presentation. Nadia was selected as a volunteer at one point. She came up and danced with the other three kids, but then she misunderstood and sat back down although she was supposed to stay up there to balance two spinning plates on two sticks. He selected a replacement for Nadia since she went back to her seat. I would have liked to have seen her do that trick! Here are some photos on the newspaper's website of the event. Oliver enjoyed parts of it, but a 45 minute long program was a bit too long for him. From the library we headed to the swimming pool as the temperatures were in the 80's for the first time in five days. Hopefully we'll have some warmer weather so the water temperature can get back up to where it had been.
