6 Month Doctor Appointment

Yesterday I took Oliver for his 6 month check-up. He was 6 months (plus 5 days) old yesterday, and it was the 8th time he's had shots (and three of those times he was stabbed more than once). He had his first immunization in the NICU, immunizations at 2/4/6 months old, and four Synagis injections. The doctor recommended adding the flu shot to his immunizations yesterday, but I said we'd wait until the fall for him to get the flu shot. I said that because #1 I know the flu season is almost over and #2 I know that the first time an infant gets the flu shot he has to get it in two doses. I didn't want to have to return in the near future for the second half of the flu shot. I think this means Oliver should get a six month break from getting any shots as his next immunizations aren't due until August. He actually tolerates them pretty well aside from screaming from the time they stab him until I get him dressed and can comfort him. He had a fever once (after the 4 month shots).

With his diaper and socks on, he weighed 13lb 11oz, which put him at the 25th percentile on an adjusted chart (1.8 percentile non-adjusted). His length and head circumference were also at the 25th percentile on the adjusted chart. He's very well proportioned! They reported his length at 25.25 inches (1.0 percentile non-adjusted) and his head circumference at 41.5cm (4.3 percentile non-adjusted).

During Oliver's appointment, I asked the pediatrician about Ian's forehead. You never know which pediatrician you will see. Unfortunately, we ended up with the one who is my least favorite. Normally I wouldn't really mind, but he was also the one who saw Ian and Oliver in December, and I was hoping to get a different doctor yesterday so I could get a third opinion regarding Ian's forehead. I figured that since he didn't say anything in December that he wasn't concerned about Ian's forehead. Yesterday he felt Ian's forehead, looked at mine, and said it seems familial to me. He thinks Ian's forehead looks like mine. I agree that Ian looks like me. He doesn't think we need to take Ian to a neurosurgeon. I'll hold off for now, but the next time Ian is in the presence of another pediatrician, I'm going to ask again to get a third opinion just to be sure.
