Birth to 6 Months Times Three

They are 3 peas in a pod...
1. Blue eyes
2. Do not like having their noses "messed with" in any shape or fashion
3. Love to be tickled (and my nose in their cheeks was a tickle spot for all three babies)
4. Do not like tummy time
5. Have a beautiful smile and laughter that makes our days brighter
6. Enjoy music
7. Still toothless wonders at the age of 6 months

Nadia at 6 months old (December 2008)

Oliver is like his big sister...
1. Thumb sucker

2. Doesn't like to be in a car seat

3. Has one messy diaper a day (Ian had MANY messy diapers a day the whole six months)

4. Enjoys being in his gym

5. Doesn't sweat very easily (Ian sweats the most by far)

6. Oliver had a bad diaper rash in the NICU, but since then he has been like his sister and not prone to diaper rash (whereas Ian was very prone to diaper rash).

Ian at 6 months (June 2010)

Oliver is like his big brother...
1. Enjoys sitting in the high chair when we're at the dinner table

2. Can't sit independently yet (Nadia achieved that milestone before she turned 6 months old)

3. I had to wake both Ian and Oliver up during the night in the beginning to make sure they nursed often enough. I never had to wake Nadia up for a feeding.

4. Nadia was far more talkative than her two brothers, and the boys are far more active with their hands and feet than she was.

5. They both grabbed my hair and pulled out my earrings.

6. Nadia started to wean herself at 5.5 months old as she preferred the bottle. Ian and Oliver showed no preference for the bottle at this age.

Oliver is his own little person...
1. Although Ian and Nadia also had umbilical hernias, Oliver's was MUCH worse.

2. The only toys Oliver plays with thus far are the ones hanging down from his gym. Nadia and Ian were putting toys in their mouth at this age, and Nadia could take rings off the rock a stack toy.

3. Oliver spits up WAY more than Nadia did and FAR less than Ian did.

4. Nadia and Ian had brown hair at birth that fell out by the time they were 4 months old, and the new hair was blonde. Oliver's hair is still brown.

5. Nadia and Ian both weighed 16 lbs at 6 months. Oliver weighs 13lbs even though he and Ian both weighed 9lbs at 4 months.

6. Nadia was off the shield before she turned 1 month old, Oliver got off the shield a little before he turned 3 months old, and Ian got off the shield a little after he turned 4 months old.

7. Oliver wants to hold hands far more than the other two ever did. If he's not holding on to my finger then he will make a really tight fist, especially when he's nursing, taking a bottle, or in the bathtub. He has been known to make his arm and hand turn purple from having such a tight fist!

8. Nadia was taking 3 naps a day whereas Ian was still taking 4 naps a day at six months old. For a long time Nadia's naps were 45 minutes long although they were longer than that by 6 months. Ian's naps were each 30 minutes long. Oliver has been by far my best napper. He transitioned from 3 naps a day to 2 naps a day before he was 3 months old, and there actually have been quite a few days where he's taken only one (3 hour long) nap. It has been very rare for him to have a nap that was only 45 minutes long. He's also the best at soothing himself to sleep if I put him in his crib when he's still awake. We haven't done any cry-it-out with him. What a relief!

9. Oliver was the best sleeper of the 3 kids from three months to five months old. I think Nadia probably wins the prize from five to six months old as Oliver has gone back to getting up once during the night many nights (somewhere between 2-4am). He did sleep through the night the last couple of nights so hopefully he'll get back in a good routine with that.
