Yesterday I discovered that Oliver had gained two new teeth over the weekend. The poor guy! He got two more teeth on the top, which means he now has eleven teeth (six on the bottom and five on the top). I expect it won't be long until he gets one more on the top, and then hopefully he'll get a little break from teething once his twelfth tooth comes in. The dressing came off yesterday (gauze and tape). I almost threw up while removing it. I was never meant to be a doctor or a nurse. Putting vaseline on his wounds at each diaper change is almost enough to cause me to pass out. I keep reminding myself that it will get better soon, and this should be the last time we need to go through this (unlike Ian who went through this twice). While I was giving Oliver a bath and removing his dressing, Nadia spilled Ian's glass of milk all over the kitchen floor. She tried to clean it up, but it was still a big mess when we came down. Oliver was in a lot of pain; so Paul and I were trying to give him some Oxycodone, and he was really fighting us on taking the medicine. Meanwhile Ian and Nadia were walking through the puddle of milk on the floor. I was just a tad overwhelmed there for a few minutes, but eventually I mopped the kitchen floor and the medicine kicked in and calmed Oliver down. Whew. Motherhood is not for the faint of heart.
Yesterday we got out the thumb guards again and put them back on Nadia. Now that she has two permanent teeth, she really needs to kick this habit once and for all. Ian eventually needs to stop playing with his belly button, but at least that habit isn't causing any long term damage (although it does get very red sometimes). Thus far Oliver doesn't have any soothing type habit. Yay for him!
