This morning we took the kids for a swim. Ian really wanted to swim in the outdoor pool, but after being in the water a little he agreed it was too cold. If we were going to swim in that pool, we should have done so during the first five days we were here as it was much warmer those days than yesterday or today. We enjoyed the indoor pool and then drove up to Plymouth to board Captain John's whale watching cruise. Paul's parents drove separately because they left directly from Plymouth to start their journey back home. We boarded the ship around 11:30, and we left the dock around 12:00 and were out at sea for 4 1/2 hours during which time we saw about 15 whales - humpback, finback, and minke whaes plus a mola mola that looks like a shark but is actually a sunfish that is technically considered to be the world's largest plankton. The minke whales were the smallest. They could be mistaken for dolphins especially the way they come up out of the water. The humpback whales were the middle size of the three types. At the end of the trip we saw some feeding which was really neat.
The finback whales were the largest whales that we saw. Some of the humpback and finback whales were very close to the boat. I was the only one of our group who had ever been on a whale watching cruise before. I believe a good time was had by all. I took lots of pictures and a couple of videos. I am too tired to go through all of them tonight, but here are a few pics from our cruise. We ended our day by swimming for another hour in the indoor pool. That was I assume our last swim until next June. We're so glad we were able to go on this vacation!
