We started trying to have children in May 2002. After pursuing fertility treatments, domestic, and international adoption, our daughter Nadia Renee was born on 6-24-08 (at 36w4d). IVF #2 resulted in Ian Alexander, who was born on 12-12-09 (at 34w3d). Oliver Elliot (IVF #3) was born on 8-7-12 (at 31w6d)! Three other pregnancies (in 2005, 2007, and 2013) ended in miscarriage. Our family is complete! We are so thankful for our three miracles!
The saying goes that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Well on Wednesday (March 1) the weather was quite balmy (around 70 degrees). I had hoped to walk with the kids to the playground that day, even though my muscles were still VERY sore from skiing on Monday, but the weather didn't cooperate. It rained off and on throughout the day. During some of the times it wasn't raining the kids did play outside - riding bikes, taking the guinea pigs outside, etc. Today it was cold enough that it snowed at one point during the day. So we have experienced lion and lamb type weather within a span of three days. It's been a crazy winter in terms of the weather. Kayden (one of Ian's friends) came over today for five hours, and the cold weather didn't stop the kids from going outside and jumping on the trampoline. It didn't feel strange taking the kids to ice skating lessons yesterday since it was actually cold out. Oliver enjoyed warming himself by the fire. Yesterday was their last lesson. Next week all four of us get to skate at their skating party.
The first week also means it's time to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. The three libraries closest to us were having a total of four Dr. Seuss events over a span of eight days. Two of the events conflicted with other things on our schedule - such as gym class this morning, but yesterday I took the kids to a party at 11:00 at the Milton library. That party was geared for younger children, but I figured that most of the time Oliver gets carted to events geared for his siblings so it was fair for once to have them go to something geared more for his age level. One of the library staff running the event happened to be Ian's basketball coach! This coming Monday night I am planning to take them to a Dr. Seuss party at the library in Lewisburg, and I assume that is geared for elementary age children since it's being held at 6:00 pm. I have been dressing the kids up in a cat in the hat costume every year since February 2011. The costume Oliver was wearing this week (in the photo above) is the same costume Nadia wore in 2011. Looking at the Dr. Seuss pictures in the past also showed me that my photography skills (and equipment) have improved over the last six years. I wish my learning curve had been a bit faster, but I am very motivated to keep striving to learn more and more about how to be a better photographer.
Kayden was quite at home with our two guinea pigs because they have three dogs and three guinea pigs at their house. In addition to jumping on the trampoline and playing with the guinea pigs the kids played hide and seek, played with light sabers, played rough house, played the piano, and played with cars. My boys can go months without touching a car, but we brought up a few of the race tracks from the basement so they could play with them with Kayden. Cars are Kayden's favorite thing to play with, whereas Ian's favorite is definitely Legos.
Oliver had a roommate three nights this week. Grandpa (my dad) slept in his bed on Sunday and Monday night, and Pop Pop (Paul's dad) slept in his bed on Wednesday night. Oliver sleeps on an air mattress in his bedroom when he has a roommate. Pop Pop came home with Paul from work on Wednesday night because they left for Cleveland on Thursday morning. They plan to return tomorrow night.
