Camp Good News

Yesterday the kids had their first day at Camp Good News. I hung out at the library in the same town where the camp is located for about 5.5 hours. Ian participated in this camp in 2016, Nadia and Ian did it last year, and all three are doing it this year. Ian didn't do the full week in 2016 as my mom passed away that week. Ian picked fishing as his activity in 2016, and he picked it again this year. He said that Addi (neighbor) sat next to him on the bus ride to where they went fishing. Ian was very proud of the fact that he was the very first child this year to catch a fish. Oliver had also requested fishing, but too many children picked that activity and so he didn't get his first choice. He was in tears when he told me about it. They put him in crafts instead. Nadia picked fishing last year, but since she didn't catch any fish last year she wanted to do something different this year. She picked sand art this year. If the weather cooperates, the girls will be swimming today and the boys will swim tomorrow. Due to the rain we're supposed to get today, Nadia probably won't actually swim until Thursday.

This is the first year of all three kids being in a camp at the same time. In the past I was trying to find things to do with one or two kids while the other one or two were in camp. Last year our neighbor and I did some carpooling for Camp Good News so that our youngest boys didn't have to make the round trip twice a day. Thus far this year I have opted to bring my laptop and not make the trip twice. The library I stayed in yesterday opens at 9AM on MWF but not until noon on T/Th. This morning I made a trip to Aldi's, called my sister to wish her a happy birthday, and then came to a library only a couple of miles from the other library. This library is MUCH bigger, and it opened at 10AM. I'm hoping by the end of the week to have almost all of my lecture notes and PowerPoint presentations ready for the fall semester. I took the kids to VBS and picked them up the last two nights, but I asked Paul this morning if he would pick them up at 8pm. The other VBS programs were super close to our house (less than 5 minute drive). This one isn't far - about 12 minutes, but still making two round trips there plus a the drive to camp (30 minutes one way) is too much for me. This is the kids last week of VBS this year. I'm glad they enjoy it!
