Since Paul & I have been married we've always gotten a real tree for Christmas. That's what Paul's parents got each year when he was growing up (they now use an artificial tree), and most of our marriage we've lived very close to Christmas tree farms. In our present house, we can see a Christmas tree farm if we look out our front door or the windows on that side of the house. Last year we had trouble disposing of our tree. The company who picks up our garbage once a week said they'd pick up the tree at no charge, but it just sat out there week after week. Paul eventually cut it into little pieces and put it in our garbage bags over the course of several weeks. We used to take our tree to a lawn & garden store where it was turned into mulch, and they would give us a $10 gift certificate to use in the store for recycling our tree. I had been thinking that this year it would be better to have an artificial tree because I imagine the bottom half of our tree will be redecorated daily over the next few weeks by Miss Nadia. I thought that would create quite a mess with pine needles if we had a real tree. I wasn't sure if Paul would agree since he
really likes having a real tree, but he surprised me by agreeing to get an artificial tree with the understanding that once the kids are older we'll go back to getting a real tree each year. Ideally we would have purchased an artificial tree last January when everything was on sale, but at that point he didn't agree with me about buying one. Today we are going to Walmart and buying a tree. I think I found one that's both reasonably priced (under $100) and also will look really nice. The first few that I saw that I liked were
much more expensive. I was relieved when I found this one online. I think we'll decorate it tonight after Nadia goes to bed. I can't wait to see her expression when she sees it the first time!As I type this, we're getting our first snow of the season. It looks "Christmasy" outside!
Nadia's vocabulary has exploded over the past ten days or so. She says several new words a day. I can't remember all of them, but here is a partial list of her current vocabulary. Two words that I understand that she doesn't say totally correctly yet are "thank you" and "Nadia." She doesn't always say her name the same way although it always only has 2 syllables. Sometimes it's Nade and other times Nada. Here are some words that she can say very clearly and uses correctly (such as she'll point to the object and say the word in a picture book). She also has started to use the plural form of nouns. If she sees a picture of more than one ball she will say "balls."
- food related: lunch, dinner, cookie, apple, pretzel, ice (cream), water, cracker, hot, bagel, cheese, bottle, hotdog, pizza, yummy
- nature related: star, moon, kitty, doggie, tiger, turtle
- animal sounds: moo, baa baa, buzz, ruff ruff, meow, roar
- greetings: hi, hello, bye bye, night night
- body parts: eye, elbow, knee, toes
- names: Daddy, Mommy, Grandma, Grandpa, PopPop, Lane, Abbey, Bob (the tomato)
- miscellaneous: ball, sticker, book, yes, no, uh oh, ah choo, all done, tickle, pop, up, down, push, draw, baby, wet, grass, out, house, wall, diaper, yucky, hat, shoes, tissue

Oh!!! I wanted snow so bad, and we did not even get a flurry. It was at least cold enough for a jacket. :)
