Here's a recipe for creating one very, very, very tired Mommy. Mix together the following ingredients:
1. Three nights in a row of very little sleep due to a flooded basement, ruptured eardrum, and nerves regarding medical tests for her 16 month old son.
2. The expenditure of more physical energy than usual (due to the flooded basement).
3. Getting up at 4:10am and getting in the car at 4:45am.
4. Driving for 6 hours in one day - part of this in a lot of traffic in a major city (Philadelphia).
5. Holding a very, very hungry baby for 5 hours during which time he only consumes some barium. At times he was screaming until his entire face was beet red while he was kicking his legs, arching his back, etc.
6. Holding a baby down on the x-ray table 8 different times over a span of 5 hours, which equals a lot more crying.
The good news is that we are home safe and sound. This is due in part to rumble strips on the turnpike. I have learned two lessons recently regarding lengthy doctor appointments that are a great distance from our home. I learned a couple of months ago that it's not wise to go by oneself with two toddlers. Paul's parents took care of Nadia today. That was a big help. Today I learned that I cannot handle an 11 hour medical adventure that includes 6 hours of driving by myself. I am very grateful we weren't in an accident on the way home. Next time I will stay at a friend's house who lives closer to Philly the night before the appointment. I must split the drive over two days OR someone has to go with me if we're doing the round trip in one day. It's 7:12 pm, and I'm going to bed before the kids do. Nighty night!

Wow Ruth! I was exhausted after just reading your post ... can't imagine how tired you must've been! :) Seriously, though, you should win an award for going through all that! A friend and I have always joked about the times when we have to put on our "Super Mommy" cape and costume and come to the rescue ... sounds like this was one of the times when you had yours on! I hope that you got some good rest last night!
Ruth, that is one recipe I don't intend to follow if I can help it! That sounded nightmarish. I'll pray for you!
"The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might, He increases power..." Isaiah 40:28-29a
