Rice Milk It Is

Ian saw a new pediatric allergist this morning. This group is 2 hours closer to our house (one way), and now that we're back on Blue Shield, I could take him there. Unfortunately shortly before we left he threw up all over the carpet, linolium, etc. I had to take him on an empty stomach. He had also vomited on Tuesday morning. The allergist said this is likely from the milk that we reintroduced on October 3. She said it can take that long for the eosinophils to build back up in the esophagus. Until the patch testing is completed, we are to eliminate milk, peanuts, eggs, soy, cinnamon, and oats from his diet. They did skin testing of 24 foods that have been linked to EE. My poor baby's back was bleeding all over the place. That didn't happen with his first skin testing in March. He tested positive for eggs and peanuts today, just like he did in March. She wants us to avoid all nuts, not just peanuts. She said this includes almond milk. I stopped at a grocery store on the way home and bought rice milk as the store I usually shop at doesn't carry it. The good news is that rice milk has more calories than almond milk. It was a long morning. It's hard to keep a 3 year old and a 1 year old happy in an exam room for two hours. The news was also hard to take. I cried on the way home as it's been so nice being able to feed Ian yogurt and pudding. I'm also expecting he'll go back to losing weight. He weighed less today than he did last Tuesday.

His patch testing has been scheduled for December 9th. Yes, that's the first appointment they had available. Ugh. His results will be read on December 12th (his 2nd birthday), and we'll also meet with a dietician that day who specializes in EE. She used to work at CHOP. The allergist he'll see on the 12th won't be the same one he saw today because she doesn't work on Mondays, and they always read the patch testing results on a Monday.

On a lighter note, I made a new recipe tonight (Tuna Melt Pie), and Paul loved it! I wasn't super keen on it, but I was thrilled that I found another recipe that Paul loves.  Nadia also said something today which really cracked me up. I was hugging her, and she said, "I'm going to marry you, Mommy." I told her that she couldn't marry me because I'm already married to Daddy. I told her that some day she'll marry a nice boy. She had a look of horror on her face and said "That is ridiculous!" I reassured her that she won't get married for at least 20 years. I wish I had a recording of her reaction to show her when she's a teenager. I hope her opinion of boys will last a long time as I think many kids start dating much too early.

Have they mentioned you using duocal to increase calories? I don't know if it has anything in it he is not allowed to have. Here is the website:
