When I got my hair cut last month I noticed that the hairstylist charges the child's age (up to age 11). I've never taken the kids for a professional haircut before, but since it was only going to cost $4 for both of them, I decided to give it a whirl! In the past I've only trimmed Nadia's bangs. I decided to let the hairstylist take some length off the back to even it up and get rid of split ends and such. I think it will make the task of brushing her hair an easier one. I picked this week as I'm taking the kids to PictureMe studios next week for Ian's two year pictures. If those pictures are a bust, I am sure my sister can help out when we're together for Christmas in MD.
Nadia did fine, and she was pleased to receive a lollipop at the end. The hairsylists were impressed with her verbal skills. They thought she was five year olds. Considering the one stylist has a 2 1/2 year old and 5 year old, that put a smile on my face. I don't have trouble cutting Nadia's bangs. I shampooed their hair this morning at home as I figured she'd just be spritzing their hair with water (which was the case).
I have a horrible time cutting Ian's hair because he tries to grab at the scissors or razor and he moves his head all around. He did much better for Jennifer. He sat still for a good portion of the time. I held his hands for part of the time, and then at the very end when she was doing the hair around his ears, I had to help hold him as he was screaming and trying to grab the razor. Amanda (the other hairsylist) had a matchbox car in her purse. Next time I'll bring some for him as that definitely helped occupy his hands.
I definitely plan to take them there again even though the price of Ian's haircut will double, lol. I gave her a $1 tip so for $5 both my kids got a haircut. I probably will still trim Nadia's bangs myself some months, and I'll take her for a haircut maybe a couple of times a year. I plan on taking Ian there regularly. I wasn't super impressed with my haircut, but since they are so nice with the kids, I guess I'll try them again. Maybe I'll try the other hairstylist next time. Ian lost half a pound over the last six days. I had cut back how much Duocal I was putting in his sippy cups since he had gained 1.5 lbs over the previous 8 days. The good news is that it still means over the course of 2 weeks that he gained 1 pound. I guess maybe I cut it back a little too much. It's so hard to know exactly how much to feed him. Normally you let a child stop eating when they're full. I have no idea when he's full since he NEVER wants to eat. One clue I get from time to time is when he doesn't finish his rice drink. I infer that he must have filled up on solid foods that meal. I had gone from 3 scoops of Duocal to 2 scoops per sippy cup. Karen (OT) suggested today that I do 2.5 scoops for the next week.
Would you believe that I still haven't heard about my childrearing leave request yet? As of today, it's been SIX weeks. I am trying so hard to be patient and not get stressed out about it, but I know I haven't been fully successful at that as I've had nightmares at night about it such as that we found out we couldn't get back on PSU's insurance and so I had to work FT next semester. In my dream I was asking my department chair to give me 10 student teachers plus my 2 evening classes (instead of the 2 afternoon plus 2 evening classes I am currently scheduled to teach). Patience is a virtue, and I need to cast my cares on the Lord. Still, it would be really, really, really, really nice if the President would make a decision in the near future. The spring semester starts in about 7 weeks. I have faculty meeting tomorrow. I'll also be doing a peer review on an adjunct faculty member, meeting with two students, and participating in a Promotion Committee meeting. The chair told us yesterday that far fewer people are going up for promotion this year. That will make our job easier next semester (presuming I'm still employed).
