Interacting More

My kids are interacting with each other a lot more these days. Since Ian was very young he has adored Nadia. He'd watch her and be giddy with excitement if she'd give him the slightest bit of attention. He's often tried to play with her, but up until recently, the feeling wasn't mutual. I think what has made the difference is his increased ability to communicate. I often hear him saying things like "look Nadia" (when he's trying to show her something).
Some of the interactions are sweet. He'll out of the blue say "sorry" because he knows Nadia finds this funny, and she'll say "don't say sorry, Ian" to which he'll say "sorry" again, and they both think it's hysterical. The same goes for "ubbie" (which is Ian's pronunciation of Cubbie). Nadia will say "you're  not a Cubbie yet; you're too little," and Ian will laugh and say "ubbie" again. Nadia has recently started asking Ian to play with her!!! Ian is not always interested in doing what Nadia wants to do, and Nadia is not always interested in doing what Ian wants to do. There are plenty of times each day when they still don't want to play together. Sharing is very, very, very, very, very hard for both of them.

One advantage of the increased interaction is that Nadia is getting more excercise than usual. Ian already did a lot of running, but Nadia only recently started running because they enjoy chasing each other around the house. The disadvantages of their increased level of interaction include more hitting, shoving, and screaming. They both have recently mastered the art of screeching at the top of their lungs. Oh my poor ears. I hope as they mature and grow that they'll become best friends and thoroughly enjoy playing together. Ian is too little to play games, but I think once he hits that stage it will be greatly appreciated by Nadia (and by me because I confess that games like Candyland are not my favorite thing to do).
