Trying again

Over the last several days Oliver pointed to the bathroom door and told me he had to go poop. I didn't pay much attention at first, and then a couple of days ago I put him on the potty and was thrilled that he went right away. For a few weeks he's been going behind a chair in the family room and hiding while he poops, and then he would come out and announce what he had done. Sometimes I caught him "in the act" and got him on the potty in time. I knew this meant it was time to start the potty training again, but I struggled to find a time in our calendar when we'd have three days where we could stay home all day. Once I realized that was impossible, I decided that starting potty training at noon on a Tuesday (after we got home from ladies Bible study) would be the best option because if I left him at home with Paul on Wednesday night instead of taking him to Puggles, he could stay home all day on Wednesday, and he can stay home until 5:45pm on Thursday  (until it is time to go see Nadia's 6pm soccer game).


On our way home from Bible study we stopped at the grocery store and I bought a bag of M&M's (the reward for going #2) and a large container of goldfish crackers (the reward for going #1). I put him in underwear at noon, and he stayed dry until 1:15 when he had an accident. I put him down for his nap right after that accident, and he kept his underwear dry during his 90 minute nap. Over the course of the next four hours he peed on the potty five times and had one minor accident (his underwear got wet but that was it). I put him in a diaper when I put him in his pjs at 7:30pm. He wore underwear for 7 1/2 hours today. Tomorrow I plan to have him in underwear for 13-14 hours. I am pleased with how things went today, and I'm hoping for continued progress tomorrow. I'm trying to train him so that he will ask me to go (like I did with Ian) rather than going the route of watching the clock and taking him every so often like I did with Nadia. I am only going to work on day time training at this point. Hopefully this time will go better than it did in July!

For those of you who pray, I would welcome prayers for it to go well. Potty training is one of my least favorite things to do as a parent. I have a few more important requests on my prayer list. I am praying for my friend, Jo, who had a frozen embryo transfer today. We're hoping that this will result in her third child! Her oldest turned 7 in July, and her youngest will be turning 2 in November. Later this week we will hit the one year anniversary of our last FET. Jo already went through two miscarriages this summer. I really don't want her FET to turn out like mine did last year. I'd also greatly appreciate prayers for my mother-in-law who will be undergoing a chemo treatment in two days. Please pray that she won't get pneumonia after this treatment. We haven't seen her for four weeks. I was wanting to see her before this next treatment, but since the kids and I have some cold symptoms, that doesn't seem wise. Paul plans to go over and visit with her during her treatment since he is healthy.
