3+ years ago I purchased a car seat and also a travel system (which included an infant carrier, base, and stroller). I am trying to decide whether or not to purchase a 2nd base for the carrier (costs about $25) for Paul's car. When we are together we use my car, so the only time she would be in his car would be when she's just with Daddy. I will definitely put the first base in my car. I am just not sure whether we should put the other car seat in his car (rear facing of course!), or if it would be worth it to buy a 2nd base and use the infant carrier no matter which car she is in (until she outgrows it anyhow). I would appreciate the input of you mothers who have 2 vehicles. Thanks!
Boy are we having a heat wave! The heat and humidity was so bad even at 9 am yesterday that I didn't even walk the full 1.3 miles. Paul did part with me and then he finished the 3.4 mile route. We installed the window a/c units yesterday. I felt badly as I wasn't able to be as much help to him as usual, and the living room one in particular is cumbersome and very heavy. Thank goodness for a/c though! I think I'd be dying this weekend without it especially while pg.

It's a matter of convenience, but I stopped carrying my son around in his carrier when he was 5 months old - just too heavy and awkward. He's average weight for his age. So, I'd guess you'd use the additional base for 4-7 months.
We bought our travel sysytem in 1994 and like you didn't get to use it until 2008, we had a tough time finding the correct base, thans ebay! I'd say get the base Evan is 4 months and I never use the carrier. Can't believe your a few weeks away. I was trying on TTC along with you the entire time, we attempted adoption too. So glad neither of us gave up and went for IVF!!

I recommend the 2nd base. It is a pain to install the bases, so it will be much easier to have two. You can use the infant seats without the base, but that just doesn't seem secure enough for my taste. We also have a forward facing car seat for each car.
I would go with the second bases- its sooo much easier and much safer. Your crib looks beautiful!! You might want to consider raising the mattress higher while Nadia is little to help save your back from frequent bending over!!!
I have no input on the carseat question, but I have to DITTO what Michelle said about the crib! I didn't even notice that before, but you will definitely want to raise the mattress up to its highest position while Nadia is small. Your back, arms, everything will thank you if you do! :)
When we first assembled the crib, I had Paul put it at the highest setting - I told him it would be easier on our backs. :-) Then when the dust ruffle came in on Friday, it looked funny as the bars were hiding it so on Saturday I asked him to lower it so the ruffle would like nice. I am sure you ladies are right though that our backs are more important than how the ruffle looks, LOL. He'll probably think I'm nuts to ask him to switch it again, but I probably will ask him to switch it later on (I'll wait a few weeks though).
I'd also vote for getting a second base. We had 2 and it was very helpful.
I vote for the second base also - that is what we did - oh and are doing now -- gotta keep remembering I have 2 - lol!
