3 Hour Test

I didn't pass the 1 hour diabetes test this time. With Nadia, my glucose was 128 after the 1 hour test. This time, it was 138. Some OB's use 130 as the cut-off (under 120 is ideal) and others use 140 as the cut-off. Dr. S must use 130. This means I have to do the 3 hour test which involves fasting for 12 hours before the test and having blood drawn four times over a 3 hour time span. I'm not looking forward to that as I usually eat breakfast at about 6:30am, and my test is scheduled to start at 8am on Wednesday. I know a lot of people fail the 1 hour test and pass the 3 hour test which means they don't have gestational diabetes. Hopefully that's what will be true for me! I will ask the neighbor if she can watch Nadia on Wednesday morning. Looking online, my red blood count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit were all low and my red cell distribution width was high. All of these point to anemia. I asked the nurse if I should start taking iron in addition to the prenatal vitamin, and she said she'd check with the doctor.

Yesterday Nadia did take two naps for the first time in four days. Her morning nap was one hour long, and her afternoon nap was 90 minutes long. She also slept 11 hours last night. YAY! She wakes up chattering happily when she sleeps 11 hours or more compared to waking up crying if she sleeps less than that. If she takes an afternoon nap today, it will have to be at the neighbor's house this afternoon.

Sarah called me Thursday night to say she had the flu and couldn't watch Nadia on Friday during my doctor's appointment. Thankfully, Paul's parents said they could come up. Friday night Sarah called and said the doctor said she'd be contagious for five more days. So Saturday I called our neighbor to see if she could babysit Nadia today and tomorrow. Thankfully she is able to do so. I can tell the flu is really bad this year. My sister, Wendy, had the swine flu last week. She actually started having symptoms the same day she returned to Chicago; thankfully we didn't catch it from her while we were together in Maryland. Last Wednesday someone was supposed to come and give us an estimate on installing a fence on our property. He called to cancel due to his wife having the swine flu and him having the seasonal flu. Today someone was supposed to come and tune our pianos, but he called last night to say his children had the flu, and he needed to stay home with them today. I am very grateful that thus far we three have escaped the flu (seasonal and swine). Nadia still has a runny nose, but other than that we're healthy.
