At dinner this evening, Nadia said (out of the blue), "I'm an artist." I am not sure what prompted this statement, but I think it's because she wanted to paint. We haven't really been doing much in the way of coloring or painting lately since we've been spending so much time outside doing things like swimming. Today was Nadia's seventh swimming lesson. She's had 3 different teachers. I feel like the first one (who taught the first 4 lessons) was the best. Melissa is on vacation right now. We took the time to paint this evening. She had a blast! It was good that we did this in the evening when Paul could entertain Ian. Ian really wanted to paint also, but I am not ready for that mess quite yet (not that I had Nadia painting when she was 19 months old).
My gut feeling that we needed to see a Hershey GI before they'll do an endoscopy was correct. The allergist's office called me and told me that this morning. I did three things today in my efforts to get Ian scheduled for an endoscopy. First I made an appointment with a GI in Hershey for the very end of August. After that consult the endoscopy could be scheduled. This means it wouldn't happen until September. Last week the Allergist said he hoped it would take place in July or at the latest in early August.
My second action was to email Dr. Williams (feeding specialist) as he works in the GI department at Hershey. I explained our situation and asked if he had any means of getting Ian an earlier appointment. He wrote back that he would see what he could do. My third action was to leave another message for the CHOP GI, this time asking if the weight check could be scheduled in the morning on the same day that Ian could later have the endoscopy. They could meet their requirement without me making two trips. I didn't hear back from them yet. My prayer is that Ian can have his endoscopy in Hershey or CHOP in the next several weeks, and that if it's at CHOP we only have to make one trip. Who knew it could be so hard to schedule a 10 minute procedure!
I returned the $15 worth of yogurt to Weis today. I was grateful they took it all back. Tomorrow I plan to go to the health food store and buy some almond milk yogurt (to the tune of $2 for 6 ounces). Ian had OT and speech therapy today. Karen said I shouldn't let him spend the second half of his nap in my arms. I am to leave him in the crib for two hours no matter how long he cries. Today he was in the crib for 2 hours and only slept 25 minutes of that time. This is nerve wracking. I hope he learns to soothe himself in the near future! We discussed various methods to help him. He didn't cry as much in the beginning this time because I gave him an empty sippy cup which he uses as a pacifier of sorts. That didn't calm him after he had slept for 25 minutes. This morning he woke up at 5:50. I had made 6:00 the line in the sand and so I didn't get him. He only cried for a couple of minutes and then slept until almost 7:00. This was a big revelation for me because yesterday I got him at 6:00. I've decided to keep inching the "line" toward 7:00 as I don't get Nadia prior to that time either. If she doesn't sleep until 7:00 (she usually does), then she plays in her bed quietly with her stuffed animals. Ian needs to learn the same skill (Karen said). So I am to gradually over the next 2 weeks push back the time when I'll get him from 6:00 to 7:00. One good thing about a later get up time is it makes it easier for him to stay up until 1pm. On the days I get him at 6:00, he usually falls asleep in the car en route to swimming (9:15am). He didn't fall asleep in the car this morning because he had slept until 7:00.
Well it's 9:59, and I promised myself I would try to be in bed by 10pm every night. I called our neighbors a little while ago and asked if one of the girls can come over and watch the kids from 3-5 tomorrow while I'm grading. I think if they come over 1-2 times a week for 1-2 hours, it would be a big help. It's especially needed tomorrow as I won't be grading tomorrow night because I'm going to a free outdoor concert that a symphony orchestra is putting on in a park. I get the majority of my grading done between 7-10pm, and that won't be happening tomorrow night as I'll be attending my first concert of 2011 (aside from the King's Brass concert on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago).
