Last week Nadia moved up to size 1 diapers. She had been wearing size "N." In the hospital they used Pampers and gave us some extras to take home, and I had bought Parent's Choice brand from Walmart as they were about $10 for 80 diapers. The only time I had any leakage was if she had a really big poopy diaper, and that hasn't happened since I switched to size 1 diapers (Pampers). Well aside from the Pampers that are at school, I am out of them at home so I recently switched to a bag of Huggies that I bought 3 1/2 years ago. During the day they worked fine, but last night she soaked through one - soaked her onesie, sleeper, wearable blanket, and crib sheet! This never happened with the other two brands of diapers. So my question is whether this is a problem with Huggies or is it just because they're too old??? I have been thinking about cloth diapers lately now that I see exactly how much we're sending to the landfill. If I go on parental leave I will definitely give them a whirl although it sounds like maybe the babysitters could handle Gdiapers? I know a few of you use cloth diapers so I'd greatly appreciate your feedback!!
Last night was the BEST night yet I do believe as Nadia slept 5h45m and then nursed for only 30 min before going back down for 1hr40m and after another short feed she slept another hour so I got about 8 hours of sleep!!!! May this become the norm!!! I think she definitely has allergies as she just sneezes SO much. At 4:00am when I was cleaning out her nose I got sooo much stuff out. She is so clogged up! I really enjoyed having Raisin Bran for breakfast this morning. I really hope she's not allergic to milk!
Yesterday I received an acceptance for my conference proposal for ACEI in Chicago in March. A couple of weeks ago I received my acceptance for my proposal for NCTM in DC in April. I have been to the last 4 ACEI conferences (held in New Orleans, DC, San Antonio, and Chicago) but never to a NCTM conference (which is for math teachers). My new selection criteria is which conference involves easy babysitting services. :-) Aunt Wendy can watch Nadia when I speak in Chicago, and Grandma Harton can watch her while I speak in DC. Although almost all my conference proposals have been accepted the past 5 years (only one rejection in that time period), I still feel a little thrill when I read "Congratulations! Your proposal xyz has been accepted for presentation at xyz." :-) Last November I was at my first NAEYC conference (early childhood) in Chicago when I found out I was pg. Since Wendy is pg with #3 (due the end of April) she won't be traveling to DC in March or May as originally planned, so that is another reason I am glad I am going to Chicago in March as otherwise I'd have to go a long time without seeing Susie & Adam (and their parents, LOL). I am planning to submit a proposal in a few months for NAEYC's 2009 conference which will be in DC. Conference proposals are usually due about 11 months before the conference so they definitely require advance planning! Hopefully going on parental leave doesn't affect my ability to receive funding for professional development travel. Speaking of finances, I got my first paycheck yesterday that is based on my new salary as Associate Professor, and it was a bigger raise than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise! Of course my pay might be going down drastically soon if I have to go on leave, but still it means that even the portion I get paid per class will be higher this year for which I am very grateful. :-)
A friend from choir is coming over to help me pack on Thursday morning. I was thinking last night that packing books is probably a good project for her that morning. So I've asked Paul that instead of packing books this weekend if instead he could help me pack the basement and garage as that includes his tools and such. Only 9 days til we move the boxes and 10 days until we're in our new house! It will be SUCH a relief to me once this move is over and we're unpacked and settled in the new house.

When Jonah was a baby I hated Huggies for that exact reason! And I liked the way the pampers fit better than the Huggies. I don't think it has anything to do with how old they are. I would keep the Huggies on reserve for the day time when you can watch how full it is!
We've tried almost every brand of diaper out there, and our favorite is the Sam's Club brand (I think it's called Maker's Mark, or something like that). They work great, and the price is great too.
I've never cared for Huggies. Pampers are ok, but one time I had a weird incident with them. Kylie woke up in the morning and there were crystals all over her. The Pampers had somehow burst open and there were crystals all over her body, including her vagina. I was worried that it might give her a UTI. The strange thing is that the diaper was hardly wet, so I'm not sure what caused it to explode. I called Pampers and they gave me a coupon for a free box of diapers, but I've never trusted Pampers after that, and they are the most expensive diaper out there.
In addition to the Sam's Club brand, I like Luvs.

It may be that they were old. We had some diapers from 2004 and when I tried them on Evan they leaked. Of courses it was the biggest box we had! They also felt a little stiffer than the new ones. We have a stockpile of diapers of all brands and I usually try the name brands at night to avoid leaks.
huggies did not work for me (lots of leaks) through the first year of the kids life. That's when I switched, mostly because I could buy them from Costco and at that point they worked OK. I do think Pampers are superior.
Huggies Overnights (that start in size 4 so you can't get them yet) are my favorites. Prior to Joey reaching a size 4, though, I used Diaper Doublers. They look like giant maxi pads wihtout the stiky stuf fon the back. You insert them in the diaper at bedtime and voila...no leaks regardless of diaper brand. They sell them at BAbies R Us and it is like $4 for 40 of them. Good luck.
I think it is a girl thing. I have heard that Huggies is good for boy and pampers for girls. I had heard this from other mothers and have found it true for my kids. I love pampers cruisers.
Bryce soaked thru Pampers so I switched to Huggies and loved them! When he was that small I did buy either Sams or Costco brand cause they are cheaper! sorry you had issues, I love my huggies but we are on our last box cuase we are potty training!!!
We used Huggies with Sarah and never had a problem, but based on all the other comments, our experience may be unusual. Try a few different brands and you'll find one that suits your needs best.
We used generic until we joined Costco, where (at our store at least) Huggies are (oddly) cheaper even than Costco's generic brand. Huggies have worked great for us. First of all I'd say give your package of Huggies a longer try... occasional leakage can happen with any diaper brand... but if it's happening repeatedly in a way that it didn't used to with your other brand, then I would guess that the problem is either that the diapers are too old OR that she's not quite ready for size 1 after all. If it's not a snug fit, then it's way more likely to leak. Those are my thoughts anyway!

I should clarify regarding the size of diapers issue: sizing isn't very standard among diaper companies. Size 1 in one brand may be significantly different in size from another brand (you can hold the diapers side by side and see the difference), even if they both claim the same weight/length range that the diaper is appropriate for...
