Ian had a HUGE spit up this morning. His clothes, including his onesie, were soaked. I decided to take off his clothes, change his diaper, and weigh him before putting a clean onesie and sleeper on him. I got GOOD news! He gained another 3 ounces!! PTL! He now weighs 6lb 8.5oz. (with only a dry diaper on). His lowest weight recorded in the NICU was 5lb 7.5oz. (at 5am on 12/22). That was without a diaper, and a dry diaper weighs about 1/2 an ounce. So this means he's gained 1lb plus .5oz from the day he was discharged (about 5 weeks ago) and 6 ounces of that weight gain were just in the last 6 days. YAHOO! This is such a relief. At his last weigh-in at the doctor's office (12/30) he weighed 5lb 10.5oz. I am now confident he'll weigh over 7 lbs at his 2 month appt that he'll be going to on February 16. If I could get him to stop spitting up so much, maybe his rate of growth would be even faster! I am going to try burping him even more frequently to see if that will help.
Paul could tell this morning that I am in desperate need of sleep. I finished loading the dishwasher and ran it this morning, but Paul told me he'd do the laundry this evening. He's coming home earlier than usual because he has to pick Nadia up at Sarah's by 4:50. He usually doesn't get home until after 6pm. He also called his dad at 7:30 this morning and asked if they could come up tomorrow. I am grateful that Nadia can stay at Sarah's today and Paul's parents will be here tomorrow. This way at least I can survive until the nap nanny arrives on Saturday. If that doesn't work I am not sure what we'll do, but for now I am telling myself that hopefully in 2 days he'll start sleeping in his crib. If between the hours of 7:30pm and 5:30am I could get at least 6 hours of sleep, I really think I would feel much better. That allows for caring for him for 4 hours during the night. I remember with Nadia there was a big improvement at 4 months and then by 6 months she was sleeping 12 hours straight which was heavenly. Nadia was up a lot during the night, but she didn't give us any trouble sleeping in her crib at night. It took awhile before she'd take naps during the day in her crib, but she wasn't hard to put down in the crib at night. Her problem was that she'd sleep for very short periods of time in between feedings. When we first brought Ian home, he seemed like he'd be a much better sleeper than she was. The opposite has proven to be true! Well hopefully this weight gain will be a help with his sleeping.
