Today we had another turkey dinner. I made this one. Nadia still loves cranberry sauce, lol. In the past I've used canned yams for making a sweet potato dish, but this year I made them from scratch. They were delicious! My parents brought up two pies last night - an apple caramel crumb pie (with pecans) and a pecan pie. They were both very yummy!
We did some work in the basement today. My dad assembled two more of the shelving units, and my parents and Paul went to Lowe's to buy some lattice to make the stairway going into the basement safer for the kids. After dinner we put up and decorated our Christmas tree. Nadia was actually scared when we plugged in the lights. She had a lot of fun putting ornaments on the tree! We put the non-fragile ones on the bottom in case she decides to redecorate it in the coming days.
Today I'm thankful for...
1. the chance to spend time with my parents and my brother today.
2. the chance to spend time with Paul's grandmother, parents, brother, nephew, and sister-in-law yesterday.
3. the fact that my insomnia is mostly a thing of the past. On Wednesday I woke up at 5:10 and couldn't get back to sleep. Ian got up at 6:10, and Nadia got up at 6:55 that morning. At first I was frustrated, but then I reminded myself to be very grateful that this is now the exception rather than the rule. The same happened this morning. Ian woke up at 2:50 and didn't go back down until 3:30. He had been sleeping through the night for a couple of months. It took me until 4:30 to fall back asleep. Hopefully last night was a fluke and he'll sleep through the night tonight.

I love that top photo of Nadia and Grandpa decorating the tree!
I wish we could have been together, but glad to hear you had a great Thanksgiving celebration.
I make sweet potatoes from scratch every Thanksgiving and Easter-- eight pounds at a time in my big crockpot! They freeze really well (at least the particular recipe I use does). There are so many good ways to serve sweet potatoes... yum.
