Chaos

We were almost home from Bible study when Nadia started to tell me she wasn't feeling well. I knew that meant she was going to throw up. I contemplated pulling over and having her throw up on a sidewalk, but that seemed sort of rude. I just hoped that she'd make it another two minutes until we were home. Nope. The last time she threw up (5 weeks ago) I thought that I should put a small wastebasket in the car to use the next time that happened. I forgot about that plan. Well tomorrow I am putting a trashcan in the car. I am not going to forget this time! So when we arrived in the garage we had a bit of chaos because Ian was starving. He was crying and begging for milk. Nadia was covered in vomit, and I also was very hungry as we eat lunch earlier most days. When I am hungry and pregnant, it means I am nauseous, and of course cleaning Nadia up was only intensifying that. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I eat my "dinner" at lunch becasue I just have something like a sandwich or yogurt for dinner in my office. I had made meatballs last night, but I still needed to boil the spaghetti noodles today. Well I decided to make a sippy cup for Ian and then take both kids up to the bathtub so I could wash Nadia's hair, etc. Ian drank his lunch in the bathtub. During this time I was also calling Paul trying to figure out if he should come home early. After taking her temp, we came to the conclusion it was car sickness not the stomach flu. This was confirmed as she kept asking for more food at lunch a few minutes later.

To add to the chaos, Beth called me at 12:45 and said she wanted to pick the kids up at 1:00 (two hours earlier than normal) because her daughter had a 2:00 dentist appointment in another town. So I had 15 minutes to finish feeding the kids, take them both to the bathroom, get their shoes and coats on, etc. This meant that I didn't eat my lunch until 1:30pm (two hours later than usual). The good news is that it was in fact car sickness. She didn't throw up any more and ate a big dinner for Paul. One perk of Beth taking the kids two hours early is that I spent about 90 minutes in the library reviewing promotion documentation.

In the midst of the chaos, I forgot two things. When I arrived on campus I realized I had forgotten to take my afternoon dose of Prometrium. I try to take it every 7-9 hours because I'm supposed to take it three times a day. I take one when I go to bed at night, one sometime between 5:30-6:30am, and one at 1pm when I put Ian down for his nap. I'm supposed to not be active for 15 minutes after taking it. Once before I forgot to take my afternoon dose, but it was a day I was on campus for a faculty meeting and was home by 5pm. This definitely was the longest I went in between doses (14 hours). I'm planning on taking my next one in the middle of the night rather than when I go to bed to spread them out a little. The other thing I forgot was to leave a door unlocked. I had made a sippy cup for the neighbors to give Ian when they got home. My poor boy had nothing to eat until Paul came home at 5:30pm. I felt awful when I learned this (at 8pm). Because of this problem and the the chaos at lunchtime, Ian was only fed solid food once today. I fed him a few bites of pureed pears for breakfast. The good news is that he didn't throw up at all today! I am planning to feed him pureed pears four times tomorrow. I'm still going to keep the quantity per meal small for now, but this was a big step forward as it was the first time he ate solid foods without throwing up in almost 3 weeks.
