Trees and Diapers

Nadia was in her crib for 2.5 hours (Yay for a longer nap!) and she woke up with a dry diaper! I counted that as our first success for the day. :-) I took her outside for a few minutes and then went back to my sit on the potty and play theory as I read several articles on potty training online that all recommended that plan. They suggested having girls wear a dress. Of course! Why didn't I think of that? After her nap I put her in a dress. When we first went outside I had her in underwear, but the rest of the afternoon she went without underwear again, but it wasn't obvious to anyone if they saw her in the backyard since she had a coat, shirt, and dress on. After sitting for about 2 hours (coloring, doing puzzles, eating, watching VeggieTales, etc.) she'd had enough so I took her potty outside and put it under the tree so she could play with rocks and leaves while sitting on the potty. She hadn't peed in almost 5 hours so I figured she HAD to pee in the near future as she had been drinking milk & water, eating raisins, and eating popsicles.

I ran inside to get a blanket for Ian (as the temperature had dropped) and when I came back out she was standing beside her potty and had the doggy inside it. I called out for her to take doggy out of there. When I got over I was elated to see she had peed! Some was in the toilet and some was on poor doggy.  I let her go down the slide and pushed her on the swing, but we couldn't stay outside very long as Ian wasn't happy At All. I can't hold him and lift her up to the top of the slide at the same time. Anyhow this was success number two today! She didn't have any accidents from 12:30-5:45pm. I put her in a diaper at 5:45 (and her pjs) and declared potty training over for the day, but in fact we experienced a third "success" to some degree in that a few minutes after I put her in her diaper she screamed "I peed" and had a look of horror on her face. She was upset that she peed in her diaper! YAY! She has said in the past (while wearing I diaper) "I pooped," but this was the first time she told me that she peed. I guess I shouldn't have put on the diaper quite that early. I admit I was tired of potty training and wanted to end on a positive note.

I think tomorrow we'll do more of the potty training outside. Go down the slide a couple of times and then sit on the potty and play with rocks and leaves and then repeat again and again. We can't do that all day long since I can't keep Ian outside all the time, but I'll try to keep her outside more tomorrow than we have been the last two days. We could stay out during his morning nap for example. I'm going to have her wear dresses instead of pants the rest of the week. It's definitely easier to get her on and off the potty when she's wearing a dress. The bottom line is that I still find potty training to be utterly exhausting, but I have far more hope now than I did 6 hours ago that we can end the week with her daytime potty trained. I think tomorrow I'll put a diaper over her underwear for her nap instead of just a straight diaper (which is what I did yesterday and today). It didn't bother me this morning that she had accidents. I expect that. It just bothered me that we had zero successes, but we did end the day with a few successes. Hip Hip Hooray for Nadia!
