Hindsight

I have thought of the adage "hindsight is 20/20" so many times the past three weeks. Had I known I'd be on bedrest this summer (potentially the whole summer if he doesn't come early) I wouldn't have bought two maternity swim suits, paid for a family membership at a swimming pool this summer, or signed Nadia up for swimming lessons. The swimming pool was ever so gracious and offered (without me asking) to refund us our $200. I am grateful. I'm also assuming we will get a refund on the swimming lessons, and some day I'll try to sell the maternity bathing suits on eBay (I wish I hadn't cut off the tags).
I would have asked to teach four online courses this summer instead of just two. We're allowed to teach up to two per session, but I only asked for one per session. I could easily have taught four classes given how much time I've spent on the couch or in bed, particularly since I did have wifi access at the hospitals. I also wish we had already done our van shopping because Paul will have to do the test drives himself, and I'm the one who will drive the minivan the most. I wish I hadn't had an ultrasound at the RE's in February. It would have been free (for us) at the OB's office, but since Geisinger charges more than 3 times more than the other hospitals for the same type of ultrasound, we owe them $518 for that 5 minute ultrasound (even though the insurance already paid $331 towards it). They would have accepted a payment of only $259 from Blue Shield, but since we have a different insurance, they want the full $850. Grr. Thank goodness I only had one ultrasound at the RE's this time. I had three there with Nadia and with Ian. I also wish I had declined some of the first trimester bloodwork, as that might end up costing us about $1,000, and some of it was definitely unnecessary.

The biggest change I would make if I could go back in time, is I would have agreed to pay the extra $500 a month to stay on Blue Shield insurance the past 6 months. I hope and pray that mistake doesn't end up costing us thousands of dollars. I did finally make headway with one of the medical bills this week. Hershey finally admitted on Monday that they goofed up. Hopefully the insurance will pay now that the claim is going to the right place. Just 11 more days and we'll be back on Blue Shield. The bottom line is that we don't know the future when we make decisions. We try to be careful and make wise decisions, but that doesn't guarantee we'll make the right ones. Exactly three weeks ago the dentist office called me to remind me of my 6 month check-up that was to take place the following morning. I remember saying, "I'll see you then." The next morning Paul had to call them and say I wouldn't be coming because I was in the hospital. It was a good reminder that we cannot guarantee what we will be doing tomorrow.

Karen (OT) came yesterday for the first time in more than a month. One change she made to his feeding program is that we are no longer to break up his Ritz crackers or cookies. He can bite a piece off, but he prefers that we break them into pieces for him. Hopefully his desire to eat these foods will override his desire that I break them for him. It would be wonderful if he started biting food. Paul had to stay home yesterday because we couldn't find a babysitter. I decided just to let Ian take a 45 minute nap with me on the couch. Hopefully he won't give Gabby any grief about taking his nap in his bed this afternoon. He screamed a little at bedtime last night, but it didn't take Paul too long to get him down (less than 15 minutes), and he slept through the night for the first time in almost a week. The melatonin seems to be helping.

Why can't you wait till after the baby is born to buy the van? You could look and test drive it while the baby was in the NICU. You are most likely going to deliver early so you will have time. Think of this... the twins were born at 26 weeks. Wyatt was there the least amount of time and that was 89 days. Bailey was there for 109 days. Even if you hold out till 30 weeks he will be there most likely 8 weeks if not longer. When we got closer to the babies coming home we took the big kids to spend the night in a hotel. We just needed time away from the house. Maybe outings to look at vans could be your get away time. You will need it. Which ones are you looking at? We have been planning to get a new one for 2 tax seasons but have held off. The medical bills are just so much.... we have looked at the Chrysler, Dodge, Toyota, and Honda.
